This Peter Cook bass had been stored for over a year in a metal transport container in the searing heat and temperature extremes of Saudi Arabia. Having been left strung to full tension, not surprisingly, the neck was severely twisted and was more like an archer\'s bow than an expensive pro custom bass guitar!
This Peter Cook bass had been stored for over a year in a metal transport container in the searing heat and temperature extremes of Saudi Arabia. Having been left strung to full tension, not surprisingly, the neck was severely twisted and was more like an archer's bow than an expensive pro custom bass!
The truss rod turned ok but only so far and with no real effect on the neck – no matter how good the rod was, it wasn’t going to have any effect on the twist.
The fingerboard was going to have to be removed to repair the truss rod problem. The customer decided on an ebony fretless replacement fingerboard.
After removal of the fingerboard, frets and binding, we discovered the truss rod was jammed solid in its slot – here we see the neck set up on a routing jig to re route the slot for the new truss rod.
New truss rod in place, finished off with a nice maple ‘skunk stripe’.
The new fingerboard glued and clamped in position.
Side dots in place, neck twist removed and set up with a far more acceptable playing action.
The bass was fitted with Bartolini humbuckers and pre amp to complete the job.
